When the car brand Aston Martin is mentioned words like luxury, high end, performance, speed, exclusivity and style come to mind. Since 1913, the British marque has become iconic worldwide for producing some of the world’s most desirable and ultra-luxury performance sports cars. Now, in partnership with titanium bike builders J.Laverack, Aston Martin has brought its innovative designs and luxury expertise from the world of high-performance motoring to road cycling by launching its J. Laverack Aston Martin .R1, a fully integrated “visually boltless”. custom made bike
Performance and riding experience are at the core of its design, and it’s not just a bike to look at. The J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R bike is made with 3D printed titanium laces and sculpted carbon fiber tubes. The two British brands say this ensures a frame that not only offers an exceptional combination of responsiveness and comfort, but also sets new standards for elegance and beauty on two wheels. The smooth joins of the tips and tubes are truly innovative, and the carbon fiber herringbone weave on display is impeccable, achieving clean lines where bindings would normally be found.
Oliver Laverack, co-founder of J.Laverack Bicycles, says: “Working with the Aston Martin team has unlocked new ideas and innovations, the application of which has created a bike that is more advanced than any currently on the market . Working in partnership with Aston Martin, we’ve not only taken our titanium bikes to new heights, but also unlocked true innovation within the cycling industry, creating a bike with unmatched levels of craftsmanship and performance engineering .
“Each component is designed to be part of the whole and to marry seamlessly with adjacent elements, achieving an unsurpassed degree of integration, which lays the foundation for the boltless design of the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R.”
The bike’s brakes are also fully integrated, using four piston brake calipers compared to two for more progression and feel through the levers, says J. Laverack. This also allows for no exposed cables throughout the bike, just a clean and aesthetically simple looking bike, but what lies beneath is an “obsession with detail beyond compare”.
The supercar brand has worked in the bike industry before, but this is a bike that has seen its most advanced engineering yet. Aston Martin founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford have a deep-rooted history with cycling and met through bike racing at London’s historic Bath Road Club, so it seemed only fitting ·a natural collaboration for the supercar maker to team up with British bespoke brand J. .Laverack to combine innovation with tradition.
“The J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R is essentially a titanium hypercar on two wheels,” said Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Creative Director of Aston Martin. “The simple and clever genius is how we’ve fused engineering advances throughout the bike with pure performance design to deliver a viscerally exhilarating riding experience. The result is a distinctive shape, born through the tradition and technology and handcrafted using only the most advanced materials, in keeping with the pedigrees and forward-thinking nature of our two iconic British companies.”
Almost every aspect of the bike has been tailored specifically for the .R1. The C13 saddle has been specifically commissioned by Brooks, and the AERA Components Æ|55 wheels are also exclusive to the .1R, with 55mm deep carbon tubeless rims with a 22mm internal width. Customers can also choose from three 12-speed groupsets: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Campagnolo Super Record Wireless or SRAM RED eTap AXS.
The luxury experience synonymous with Aston Martin doesn’t end with the bike’s design. By purchasing one of these bespoke bikes, people will be invited to Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, UK for a full meet and greet with the founders of J.Laverack, giving customers the chance to fit their bikes with expert knowledge. Fit measurements are down to fractions of a millimetre, says J.Laverack, with crank lengths made specifically for each rider and the Sphyr stem made with absolute precision thanks to bespoke 3D printed titanium.
For complete individuality, customers will also be able to choose from a range of Aston Martin car colors and trims (tail-matching bikes and cars), as well as saddle and handlebar tape. There is also the option to leave the carbon fiber bare to show off the beauty of the raw material. The bottom bracket cups, brake calipers and brake disc centers also have a customizable ceramic coating in either bronze or muted black.
When delivered, the bike arrives in an aluminum or carbon case which can double as a travel bike case and includes a matching track pump and bespoke tool kit.
The J.Laverack Aston Martin .R1 will make its debut at GravelBikes.Online Live 2023.
