I had to do a review of the Megamo Jakar 30. The reason is that it is a bicycle that I love aesthetically. Also, this excessive enthusiasm that I have for this model is explained because it has an excellent price that does not reach 1,200 dollars. In addition, it is equipped with the new Shimano GRX, which as you well know is a specific group for gravel. Below, I detail its key aspects.
Detail of the painting
A few months ago I introduced you to the brand’s carbon West. But now, I felt like writing about their aluminum models: the Jakar 20 and 30 . Both share the same frame and fork (carbon). The difference between these two alloy models is that the group they mount is different (GRX or Apex 1). Specifically, I will focus on the Jakar 30 model (Shimano GRX), which I consider that in terms of quality-price there are few options on the market that surpass it.

The Frame of the Megamo Jakar
The first thing I add about the Jakar is that it is a very modern frame . This has a simple explanation: its tubes have different thicknesses since they are hydroformed . The rear chainstays are short, so the whole of this triangle feels very modern.
“The first thing I add about the Jakar is that it is a very modern frame . This has a simple explanation: its tubes have different thicknesses since they are hydroformed “
Returning to the thickness of the tubes, the technique used allows us to have a lighter and more solid frame as a final result. The down tube is oversized and square shaped. The upper one increases in size as it joins with the direction one. The final look is a bike that looks like carbon. You have to get closer and see the unpolished welds to understand that it is aluminum.
As is usual in a frame of this type, the cables are located internally . This aspect gives the bicycle a very clean appearance and also, as I have mentioned on occasion, protects them from dirt or possible inclement weather that we may encounter.

Regarding its geometry, it has a somewhat moderate sloping . Furthermore, this type of frame with this feature makes riding the bicycle, especially on more technical terrain, more manageable compared to using a more classic frame or one without a top tube drop.

Another thing that I would highlight about its geometry is that the Jakar is ideal for long journeys . There is an explanation for this: the distance between the head tube and seat tube is short, making the posture much more relaxed and comfortable.
On the other hand, it has added welds . For example, on the top tube, for the location of a tool bag, or a bikepacking bag. It does not have added eyelets for installing a third bottle cage on other tubes. But I don’t consider the latter important, since there are solutions on the market that allow you to install an additional one using straps.
Also, it has the possibility of installing a luggage rack in the rear . The final result is that we can convert this model into a touring bicycle or for excursions of several days.
One of the things I have not been able to find out is if it is possible to install 650b wheel sizes. But don’t worry, its wheel arch is wide enough to fit up to 45mm tires in a size 700c . Consequently, you will be able to cover any type of terrain, no matter how aggressive it may be.
“The wheel arch is wide enough to be able to fit up to 45mm tires on a 700c size”
Finally, the frame goes with a carbon fork with a straight design . This is appreciated, since this material helps mitigate vibrations in the front part of the bicycle. Add that you have three sizes (S, M and L) and two colors (black or turquoise).
Components of this Megamo Jakar 30
As for the peripherals that come with the Jakar 30 (according to the manufacturer’s website), the seat post, handlebars, stem and saddle are from the brand itself. These components are made of aluminum and of acceptable quality. As for the handlebar, it is specific for gravel and has a slightly flared shape.
As I mentioned, there is a single chainring version of the Jakar that mounts the Sram Apex 1 groupset (hydraulic). But, as I mentioned, I will focus on the subcompact option based on the Shimano GRX transmission .
Specifically, we are talking about the first level of the GRX: the 10-speed 400 . It would correspond, and I don’t know why I make this comparison with route changes, with the Shimano Tiagra.
As for the developments, it mounts a double 46-30 tooth chainring with an 11-36 cassette . It is a development, therefore, focused on adventure or gravel cycling. Maybe, if you come from the asphalt, you may have the feeling of lack of speed.
Wheels and tires
Finally, as for the tires that the Jakar comes equipped with, they are the Shimano RS171 . These are specific for off-road use. These are wheels made of aluminum and work for 12mm thru-axles.
The tires included are the Wtb Riddler for 700c wheels and a thickness of 45c . These tires are suitable for off-road or gravel. These tires have a tread with flatter lugs that allow you to roll on roads with a certain agility.

Price for Jakar 30
The official price of this bicycle is €1,199 .
Verdict of Megamo Jakar 30
The Megamo Jakar 30 is a gravel bike of acceptable quality . In this case, I consider whether it is necessary to spend 2,000 or 3,000 dollars on higher models, when this level of bicycles has sufficient guarantee of use and components to enjoy adventure cycling. But this is a very personal opinion.
The bicycle, which is appreciated, for this 2023 incorporates the new specific Shimano GRX gravel groupset . Also, it has a slightly more expensive version that mounts the Sram Apex 1 single chainring.
