Introduction: Sour Clueless – The Versatile All-Road Bike
When searching for a bike that can seamlessly transition from bike commuting to weekend group rides to adventurous dirt road riding, the Sour Clueless, a straightforward steel all-road bike, is hard to beat. I’ve been riding the Clueless for almost half a year, and it has exceeded my expectations, performing well in fast gravel rides and long winter road rides. The Clueless is an affordable modern steel, disc brake all-road bike that offers quality, versatility, and affordability.
Sour Clueless – Designed for Versatility
Designed in Dresden, Germany, just across the border from our Czech EU HQ, and manufactured in Asia, Sour’s steel bikes excel in mixing quality, versatility, and affordability. In a world where do-it-all adventure bikes and light carbon disc brake bikes dominate, the Clueless stands out by offering a classic steel ride quality and the ability to handle various terrains. With clearance for up to 700 x 40mm tires, quick handling endurance geometry, and the promise of a classic steel ride, the Clueless is the perfect road bike for cyclists who want to explore beyond smooth asphalt.
Clueless – Technical Details
The Clueless frame is meticulously constructed using size-specific heat-treated, shaped, and butted steel tubesets. Each frame size undergoes careful attention to ensure consistent ride quality across all sizes, a detail often overlooked by other companies. The downtube, toptube, and seatstays vary in diameter from XS to XXL to provide optimal stiffness and flexibility for riders of all heights. The Clueless features modern tech details such as 12mm thru-axles, flat mount 140mm compatible disc brake tabs, and a tapered 34/44mm internal headtube.
Sour Clueless – Actual Weights
Sour is transparent about their claimed frame weights, acknowledging that their size-specific tubing approach may make larger frames seem heavier compared to competitors. However, they stand by the resulting improved ride quality. The Clueless frame weighs approximately 2134g for a size M, while the uncut fork adds an additional 495g. The complete bike weight for my Review bike was 10.75kg (23.7lb), including full coverage fenders, alloy wheels with tubes, and 34mm WTB Exposure tires. Switching to carbon DT Swiss endurance wheels with 28mm road tires reduced the weight by 680g (1.5lb).
All-Road Endurance Geometry
The Clueless offers a balanced endurance road bike geometry, making it suitable for long rides on various terrains. With six frame sizes ranging from XS to XXL, the Clueless accommodates riders of different heights. For example, the size M has a 72° headtube, 74mm of BB drop, and a stack of 596mm to a reach of 373mm.
Clueless – Pricing & Availability
The Clueless is highly customizable, with options ranging from a frame-only option starting at 750€ to complete bike builds starting at 2620€. Sour offers the flexibility to choose different builds, bar styles, and colors through their online customizer tool. Each bike is painted and built to order in Dresden, with a delivery lead time of approximately 3 weeks for framesets and 4-5 weeks for complete bikes. Sour also provides the option for color-matched fenders and plans to introduce more options, including an alloy fork with extra bottle bosses, in the near future.
Sour Clueless – Custom Color Options
Sour offers five standard colors per bike model, with the option to choose custom colors for an additional fee. Their paint shop in Dresden constantly experiments with unique powdercoat finishes, providing customers with a wide range of possibilities. Additionally, Sour offers a full vinyl protective wrap option for those looking to protect their bike’s paint.
Sour Clueless – Long-Term Riding Impressions
Having ridden the Clueless as a daily commuter and a weekender road bike throughout the winter, I can confidently say that it delivers an exceptional ride.
