The deceptively simple Standert Bürgermeister*in city bike slipped in under our radar with old-school steel trekking bike looks, but just the right mix of modern tech sprinkled in for do-it-all versatility. They call it a bike to “unlimit your commute“, which basically means it’s a no-nonsense townie bike with all the tire clearance, integrated lighting, and carrying capacity to head off on an adventure the moment you pedal out of the office at the end of the day on Friday.

On second thought, maybe you should just plan to skip out after lunch to go even further…

Berlin, Germany-based Standert figured why not just make your daily driver city bike, a capable weekend bike too? Smooth city streets, commuter shortcuts through the woods, weekend gravel road spins, or longer bikepacking adventures… why choose just one!

There’s not really any revolutionary new tech in the Standert Bürgermeister*in commuter bike, it’s just a really nice balance of versatility. And it’s topped off with room for up to 700c x 45mm or 650b x 47mm tires so you can pick how far off-road you really want to go.

Tech details

The disc brake Bürgermeister*in frame is 4130 chromoly steel welded in Taiwan, matched to a lugged crown, raked steel fork. Claimed frame weight of 2370g (54cm) and fork of 1150g (uncut).  The frameset sticks with old classic standards like quick-release axles, BSA threaded bottom bracket, 27.2mm seatpost, full rack & fender mounts, a chainstay kickstand mount, and even a tiny-by-today’s-bikes 1″ threadless headset.

But then it mixes in modern details, too – modular sliding dropouts (a la Paragon), post-mount disc brakes, a split seatstay for belt-drive compatibility, modular semi-internal cable routing inside the downtube, 3-bolt anything cage mounts on each fork leg, and even the option for a 1-piece bar+stem combo – in steel of course.

    • Seriously? Steel bikes offer durability, stability, and a smooth ride, which is crucial for adventures. Aluminum may be lighter, but it lacks the same strength. So, if youre looking for a bike that can handle tough terrains and last long, steel is the way to go.

    • Cars are still necessary for many people. Bikes are great, but they cant replace the convenience and practicality of a car, especially for longer distances or when you need to transport heavy items. Lets not forget that not everyone can physically ride a bike either.
